آج این ای ڈی یونیورسٹی مینجمنٹ سائنس کا ٹیسٹ دینے گیا، یہ دیکھ کر خوشگوار حیرت ہوئی کہ سیکیورٹی گارڈز ابھی تک بھولے نہیں محبت سے ملے حال چال پوچھا ٹیسٹ شروع ہوا مشکل تو بہت تھا کسی طرح مکمل کیا باقی قسمت کے سہارے کیا، دو گھنٹے بعد کلاس سے باہر آیا لیکن یونیورسٹی سے باہر جانے کے بجاۓ واپس اندر کی جانب چل پڑا. میرا ٹیسٹ سول ڈپارٹمنٹ کی کسی کلاس میں تھا جہاں سے چلتا ہوا میں مکینیکل ڈپارٹمنٹ کی جانب آیا، یہ ہے روم نمبر ساٹھ این ای ڈی میں داخلہ لینے کے بعد پہلی کلاس میری یہیں ہوا کرتی تھی ،کلاس کے اندر جاکر دیکھا، اِس کے سامنے ہی مکینیکل لیکچر ہال ہے جہاں اس دور میں فائنل ایئر میں کافی جماعتی ساتھی تھے اور سامنے ہی فرسٹ ایئر کلاس کی وجہ سے ان کا اور ہمارا رابطہ ہوا تھا. ہر کلاس کے بعد کوئی نہ کوئی حال چال پوچھنے آجاتا، اس ہی وجہ سے دوستی ہوئی اور جمعیت میں آنا ہوا. اس سے تھوڑا اندر کی جانب جا کر وہ تنگ سی گلی ہے جہاں پہلے ہی مہینے چند دوسری تنظیم کے لڑکوں نے مجھے روک کر نرم لہجے میں سوال کیا تھا کہ کیا بات ہے جماعتیوں میں بہت اٹھ بیٹھ رہے ہو؟ تھوڑی دیر اس ہی گلی میں رکا نہ جانے کیا دیکھتا اور سوچتا رہا اور پھر انڈسٹریل ڈپارٹمنٹ سے ہوتا ہوا مسجد آگیا، وضوخانہ میں لگے کولر سے پانی پی کر اُس جگہ آ کر بیٹھ گیا جہاں ہم روزانہ ظہر کی نماز پڑھنے کے بعد جمع ہوکر قرآن کی ترتیل کیا کرتے تھے. کچھ لمحے نہ جانے کیوں وہیں بیٹھے بیٹھے گزارے. مٹیرئیل ڈپارٹمنٹ کی پیشانی پر لکھی قرآنی آیت کو دیکھتا ہوا واپس چل پڑا، مکینیکل سے دوبارہ گزرا اور آڈیٹوریم کے سامنے سے ہوتا جمعیت کے یونٹ پر آپہنچا جو کہ اتوار کی وجہ سے خالی تھا. کچھ دیر ان بِنچوں پر بیٹھا رہا بیچ میں لگے اس درخت کو دیکھتا رہا جو شاید کبھی بھی دھوپ نہ روک پایا لیکن اس ہی ہلکی سی چھاؤں میں ہم اور ہم سے پہلے بھی بہت سے لوگ گرمی سہتے بیٹھے رہتے تھے .. پھر کیفیٹیریا کی جانب آیا، شہید تسنیم منظر عالم شہید کی تختی کو دیکھتا اور چھوتا رہا، کیفیٹیریا کے آس پاس درختوں کے پاس ٹہلتا رہا، ایک درخت پر وہ مل گیا جو ڈھونڈ رہا تھا یہ "سیّدی" کا لفظ انگریزی حروف میں ہمارے ایک ساتھی نے لکھا تھا، کیفیٹیریا کے دروازے پر جمعیت کے اسٹیکر دیکھتا رہا اور پھر واپس باہر کی جانب چل پڑا...

نہ جانے کیوں ذہن کسی اور ہی زمانے میں چل رہا تھا، کبھی دوستوں کی ہنسی سنائی دیتی، تو کبھی ٹیچر کے ساتھ اٹھکیلیاں، کبھی نعرہ تکبیر کی صدائیں تو کبھی کچھ اور ... اگر کوئی یہ سمجھے کہ یہ کیا بھئی اتنا جذباتی کیوں ہوا جارہا ہے تو میں واضح کروں کہ میرے لئے یہ کوئی عام جگہ نہیں بلکہ بہت مقدس جگہ ہے اس ہی جگہ سے میں نے اپنی زندگی کے شعوری سفر کا آغاز کیا، جمعیت سے متعارف ہوا، شاید زندگی کے سفر میں ہم سب بھول بھال گئے آج اس ہی سبق تو دوبارہ یاد کرنے کچھ پل ان در و دیوار کے ساتھ بِتائے ...
شاید میں اپنے جذبات کا صحیح طور پر اظہار اس تحریر میں نہیں کر پارہا اور شاید کر بھی نہ پاؤں ...

این ای ڈی یونیورسٹی کا ایک واقعہ

این ای ڈی یونیورسٹی کے دور میں جمعیت کے پلیٹ فارم سے ہم داخلہ ٹیسٹ والے دن طلبہ کی رہنمائی کیلئے کیمپ لگایا کرتے تھے. اس دوران تقریباً تمام طلبہ تنظیمیں بھی اسی مقصد کی خاطر کیمپ لگا کر طلبہ کی رہنمائی میں مصروف ہوتے تھے.دس بارہ تنظیموں کے کیمپ اور انکے کئی سو کارکن، ایک میلے کا سا سماع ہوا کرتا تھا.
ایک دفعہ ہر سال کی طرح ٹیسٹ والے دن جمعیت نے کیمپ لگائے. میں انہی کیمپوں میں سے ایک کیمپ پڑ کھڑا تھا کہ ایک طالب علم میرے پاس آیا اور اپنا موبائل جو کہ کافی قیمتی تھا میری جانب بڑھا کر بولا کہ میرے ابو سے بات کرلیں. اس شخص کو میں زندگی میں پہلی دفعہ دیکھ رہا تھا. بہرحال اس کے والد سے بات کی تو کہنے لگے کہ یہ موبائل اپنے پاس رکھیں (ٹیسٹ میں آپ موبائل اندر نہیں لیجا سکتے) میں آپ سے آ کر لے لونگا. انہوں نے نام پوچھ کر فون بند کردیا. وہ لڑکا اپنا موبائل مجھے امانتاً چھوڑ کر ٹیسٹ دینے چلا گیا جس کے کچھ دیر بعد اس کے والد میرا پوچھتے ہوئے آۓ اور موبائل وصول کیا کچھ دیر کیمپ میں بیٹھے اور چلے گئے.
انکے جانے کے بعد مجھے اندازہ ہوا کہ جمعیت اور جمعیت کے کارکنان پر ایک عام فرد کتنا بھروسہ کرتا ہے.جہاں اتنی ساری تنظیمیں اپنے کیمپ لگا کے بیٹھیں تھیں اس شخص نے اپنی قیمتی شے کو رکھونے کیلئے جمعیت کو ہی اتنا امانت کا پاسدار سمجھا.

ہماری ترجیحات کیا ہیں

اتفاق سے میرا بھی تعلق کئی تعلیمی اداروں سے رہا. میرے ساتھی کلاس فیلوس مختلف پروگرامات کراتے تھے اور ان میں سے کئی موسیقی سے بھرپور ہوتے تھے. میں نے اور چند دوست جو مذہبی ذہن کے حامل تھے سوچا کہ اس طرح بھی ہو سکتا ہے کہ دین کی بات کلاس میں کی جائے لیکن جب ہم نے ایسا کرنے کا سوچا تو ہمیں روک دیا گیا. کافی دفعہ یہ سوال کیا جاتا کہ کس تنظیم کے ہو اور تمہیں اتنی کیوں فکر ہے لوگوں کہ ذہنوں میں اسلامی تعلیم انڈیلنے کی،میں سوچتا تھا کہ جب تعلیمی اداروں میں موسیقی کے پروگرام ہوتے ہیں تو ان سے اس پروگرام کا مقصد کیوں نہیں پوچھا جاتا؟ این ای ڈی میں ایک عرصہ گزارا صدی پرانی جامعہ جس میں کئی نئے نویلے ڈپارٹمنٹ بننے کے باوجود قریباً 2009میں مسجد کی توسیع ہوئی. ایک دفعہ Fast یونیورسٹی جانا ہوا مسجد ڈھونڈنے کے بعد گراؤنڈ کے اک کونے میں کچی زمین پر چند جاء نمازیں بچھی دیکھیں اس وقت بھی اسکا شمار اچھے اداروں میں ہوتا تھا اب سنا ہے اچھی بن گئی ہے مسجد. ایک دینی پروگرام Marriot میں ہوا تھا ہوٹل کے باھر ٹوٹی پھوٹی مسجد دیکھ کر شدید دکھ ہوا.
بتانے کا مقصد صرف اتنا تھا کہ ہماری ترجیحات کیا ہیں ہم دنیا کے لئے کتنا خرچ کرتے ہیں اور آخرت کے لئے کتنا. ہم آفس کی عمارت کیلئے پلازہ کھڑا کردیتے ہیں لیکن مسجد کے لئے بیسمنٹ کے کونے پر ٹوٹی پھوٹی جگی ہی ملتی ہے. بچوں کی تعلیم او لیولز میں ہونی چاہئے اسکے لئے دس ہزار فیس بھی کم اور گھر پر آنے والے قاری صاحب کی پانچ سو روپے فیس پر بھی تکرار...

A Business Concept, Dont Give Them Fish - 2

Searching about my university, NED University of Engineering & Technology, I came across an article which was about a candidate from NED who participated in the “Karo Mumkin” competition organized by a telecom company telenor. The concept of this program was to give creative ideas which can bring a change in the lives of the people. A large number of people participated in the competition and give creative ideas, which were later uploaded on the contest website, the top ten entries were displayed which were selected by the internet poll voting.

The winner was the contestant from NED Abdul Haq Mohiuddin, the concept defined in website as:

“Abdul Haq Mohiuddin, a graduate of NED university dreams to see an educated Pakistan. This prompted him to come up with idea of each graduating student of NED giving Rs. 100 to help an under privileged child in his education. Each graduating batch of NED and if replicated by other universities would be able to donate enough money to eradicate illiteracy from Pakistan.”

Every graduate from the university after getting job will donate Rs. 100 from his salary to a fund. At least 1600 engineers pass out from NED every year, the monthly donation of Rs. 100 from each will bring about Rs. 160,000 to the fund and this fund will be used in the education of children of underprivileged areas this will bring the literacy rate up. No wonder this was a great idea, that’s why it won the first prize, the winner was selected through internet polling.

Don’t give them fish butt tell them how to fish!

You might come across my article on this topic, about the government giving funds to the people, but not giving them opportunity to earn, which is enhancing their begging skills, but not develop then as a creator/entrepreneur. Blending the Abdul Haque’s idea and the-don’t-give-them-fish idea; I have created a new idea described as follows:

What if the graduates will combine Rs. 100 each and will open a joint stock engineering firm, the initial investment will be then Rs. 160,000, the objective of the company is that it will be able to generate each person about at least Rs. 500 per month revenue in the future, some proportion of the revenue generated from the business can be invested back and can be used to generate more business, also the 1600 people can provide facility in some parts of the organization for its betterment in the production, sales, marketing, research and development, administration. This will create more job opportunities as well. Similarly if the same initiative can be done by the students of other universities, thus hundreds of new businesses can be started, which will bring more revenue to the country, more job opportunities, more business and prosperity. This might be a long term planning but will be equally helpful to overcome the economic crisis of Pakistan and increasing the per capita income.

More elaboration, the initial revenue of Rs. 500 is expected to increase approximately to 500 rupees each month, thus it will reach Rs. 10,000 in about 20 months (1.6 year). In about 20 months an investor will be making an income of 10,000 still growing each month by Rs.500. this is because the initial investment of Rs. 100 per share holder will not stop in the first month but the investor will be investing Rs.100 each month which means a total investment of about Rs. 160,000 every month to the business.

Educational institutes or money making businesses

Long long time ago "education" was a welfare work, teachers in those days teach only for welfare, if any student in respect of his teacher tries to help him, the teacher not allows him as he thinks it might look like as a reward for his services. But now the education considered being a highly profitable business.
Pakistan is an underdeveloped country and about more than 70% population lives below the line of poverty. Where the daily income of a person can not meet his daily expanses, where 80% population can't even have clean water and sewerage facilities. Even with the government efforts to provide education to masses, we can still see huge fees in the institutes. Let's close our eyes from the private institutions, first take a look at the government universities, the yearly fees getting increment every year, without giving any consideration to the increment of a salaried person.
The yearly fees of the engineering program in NED (Government Supervised Educational Institute), or the B.S program in K.U (Government Supervised Educational Institute), the figures goes as above as 5 figures, how can it be possible for a person whose daily income is around Rs.500? This is the reason why we are still considered as underdeveloped.
How can we expect the growth of a tree if we not give preference to the nourishment of roots!
If this is the situation of the government funded universities, then what can you expect from the private institutions. Factually private institutions are now out of the range of middle and lower class community. This is the reason most of the private universities of Pakistan are associated with elite classes.
Despite getting funds from HEC, having attractive slogans of "welfare works" the private universities having minimum fee of Rs. 60000/ per semester, why the fees are way too high to catch? Simple! It's a business, so they are free to get as much profit as they plan, but then they should not be portraying themselves as "welfare" workers.
Institutes and universities should stick to their vision and policies, when we visit a university, we can see the vision statement shining on the walls with words, "we are building the nations, blah blah", but when we closely inspect the system, we see that these all beautiful words are having dark backgrounds. The students are kicked out of universities, just for not paying fees, blackmailed by showing their name on notice boards as fee defaulters. If they say that they are doing welfare work and running a welfare organization then they should do the same and then keep top priority as providing inexpensive and quality education. Students should be given benefits, and tolerances.
This can never happen without the involvement of government, this does not means that all the private institutions and universities should be nationalized, but they should be audited under the supervision of government officials.
